The AA is a world leader in astronomical research and in the development of innovative telescope instrumentation. Until the 1970s, maximum of the world’s largest telescopes had been built in the northern hemisphere. Made the beginning detection of an secluded brown dwarf star in our Galaxy. Maximum astronomers using the AA are from Australia and the UK, but scientists from all over the world can be members of the observing teams. Astronomers then usually travel to the telescope to take up their time allocation, although recently there has been a move towards isolated observing. No two of the world’s large telescopes are exactly alike, so instruments are generally built to go on one particular telescope. The AA is a world leader in building advanced instrumentation for its own and other major telescopes. By using supple optical fibers, the light from many individual objects stars, galaxies, or even individual parts of galaxies can be directed into a spectrograph and analyses simultaneously. It worn a robotic arm to store optical fibers onto a important field plate, allowing astronomers to collect light from objects (usually galaxies) spread over a important (two degree) field of view a portion of sky about 16 times the size of the packed Moon. Together, they make the AA the world’s superior instrument for wide field spectroscopic surveys. Members of the community are encouraged to conform articles. For the Pleiades Award we identified a set of tomorrow activities for the AA including three areas where we will aim to improve. A growing role for the Diversity Committee in recruitment and policy development. We retain Ladies’ Lunch on a monthly basis, where challenges and accomplishments are discussed. We have hosted an emir writing workshop, which is piece of our continuing involvement in the AA EC Chapter. Parts of the resulting spectrum can then be studied in detail to measure important properties such as the temperature, chemical composition, velocity or distance of an object, revealing vital facts about distant stars, galaxies and nebulae that photographs cannot show. Over the past decade the AA has pioneered the use of optical fibers in astronomy and currently leads the world in this work. This instrument dramatically improves the efficiency of the telescope, which has traditionally observed one object at a time, allowing astronomers to carry out previously impractical observing projects.
